How to See Who Doesn't Follow You Back on Instagram
- Non-followers
- Unfolks
You can open Instagram, tap Following, and scroll for a long time without ever seeing who doesn't follow you back on Instagram. The app shows you who you follow. It does not give you a list of the accounts in that group that don't follow you back. That missing list is the whole problem, and it is why people end up checking one profile at a time or pasting random tools into their browser.
This guide is the practical version. It covers what "doesn't follow you back" actually means, how to check a small account by hand, how Instagram's own data download fits in, and how to run the check in the browser with Unfolks, a free side-panel extension for Chrome, Edge, and Brave. It does not ask for your password. It uses the Instagram session already open in your browser, and the lists stay on your computer.
If your real goal is to unfollow a lot of those accounts afterwards, read how to mass unfollow on Instagram safely before you start tapping. Finding the list and clearing it are different jobs, and the second one is the one that can get an account limited.
Who doesn't follow you back on Instagram
"Doesn't follow you back" is a comparison, not a notification. Take the accounts you follow. Remove the ones that also follow you. What is left is the list. It includes brands you followed on purpose, creators you like, private accounts that never accepted a follow, and people who followed you once and later left. Those are not the same kind of account, which is why a raw list is a starting point and not a to-do list.
It is also not the same question as "who unfollowed me". Someone who never followed you is a non-follower. Someone who used to follow you and stopped is an unfollow. Instagram does not send a message when either thing happens. If you want the second question, the method is different, and it is covered in how to check who unfollowed you on Instagram.
The list will not tell you whether an account is inactive, a person who is simply not interested, or a brand you followed on purpose. It also will not unfollow anyone. That part is a separate action, and Instagram can limit it.
Check by hand, if the account is small
On a following list of thirty or forty people, you do not need a tool. The manual check is slow, and it is the option with the least machinery.
On your phone, open your profile, tap Following, and look at each row. Accounts that follow you are marked. Everyone else on that list does not follow you back. The badge wording moves as Instagram redesigns the app, so trust the mark on people who follow you, and treat unmarked rows as the ones that do not. On instagram.com it is the same idea. There is still no filter for "only the accounts that don't follow me back".
This falls apart once the list is in the hundreds. You lose your place, you skip people, and you have nothing to sort. That is when a file or an extension earns its keep. The manual answer is not wrong. You just will not finish it.
Use the file Instagram already lets you download
Instagram has a "Download your information" export. You request your followers and following, wait for the file, and compare the two lists on your own computer. During that comparison, nothing new has to be asked of Instagram, which is why this is the check to use when you do not want to risk a limit just to look.
The menus move, so follow the label "Download your information" rather than an old screenshot, and ask for followers and following if Instagram lets you choose a partial export. The step-by-step is in find non-followers with Instagram's data download. The short version: the file is a snapshot. It will not unfollow anyone, and it will not update itself tomorrow.
Run the check in the browser with Unfolks
Unfolks is the extension we build. On the Chrome Web Store it is rated 4.3 out of 5 from 69 ratings, and the listing shows 20,000 users. It is free. There is no trial and no paid tier. It runs in the browser side panel, so it needs Chrome, Edge, or Brave. Browsers without that side panel, such as Opera, can't open it, and it does not run in Firefox or Safari.
A scan reads Instagram while you are signed in, the same way scrolling your Following list does. Instagram can slow or stop that. When it does, Unfolks keeps your place so you can resume instead of starting over. If you would rather send Instagram nothing at all, use the data-file check in the same panel. That screen finds non-followers on your computer and does not unfollow from there.
Install it once
- Add Unfolks from the Chrome Web Store. Edge and Brave can install the same listing.
- Open instagram.com and sign in the way you already do. There is no password field in the extension and no Unfolks account to create.
- Click the Unfolks icon. The side panel opens beside Instagram, not on top of it.
- Click Show unfollowers. The extension compares the account you are signed in to.
You can close the panel while a scan is running. It keeps going as long as that Instagram tab stays open.
Read the list before you touch it
The result is every account you follow that does not follow you back. Search, sort by when you followed them, and filter to verified accounts, accounts that are not verified, private accounts, or accounts with no profile photo. A private account is not automatically someone to drop, and a verified account is not automatically someone to keep.
Hide the accounts you already know you want to keep. Hidden accounts stay out of a bulk unfollow until you bring them back. The comparison stays in the browser. The extension does not upload your lists. The privacy policy describes the one exception: a crash report if something breaks, so the bug can be fixed.
What to do with the names
A long list feels like a chore you should finish in one sitting. That is the habit that gets accounts limited. Instagram does not publish the exact number of unfollows it will allow, and the number is not the same for every account. No tool, including this one, can promise you will not be restricted. Going slowly is the part you control.
Hide who you want to keep, unfollow in a batch that waits, and stop when Instagram stops you. Unfolks waits 4–6 seconds between unfollows by default and rests for 3 minutes after every 5. Both timings can be changed in Settings. Slowing them further is the safer direction. If Instagram starts refusing, the extension stops and shows when you can try again. Posts that quote a precise daily cap are guessing, which the limits guide explains. Seeing the list and doing nothing with it is also a valid result.

Frequently asked questions
Does Instagram show who doesn't follow you back?
Not as a list. Your Following list marks the accounts that follow you, so on a short list you can check one row at a time. There is no built-in view of only the accounts you follow that don't follow you back. The badge wording moves when Instagram redesigns the app, so trust the mark on people who follow you and treat unmarked rows as the ones that do not.
How do I see who doesn't follow you back on Instagram?
On a list of thirty or forty people, do it by hand. 1. Open your profile and tap Following. 2. Read each row. Marked accounts follow you. Unmarked rows do not follow you back. There is still no filter for only those rows. On a longer list, pick one of the two checks that finish. 3. Request Download your information, ask for followers and following if Instagram offers a partial export, and compare the two lists on your computer. 4. Or add Unfolks, open instagram.com while you are signed in, and click Show unfollowers. The extension uses the Chrome, Edge, or Brave session already open. It does not ask for your password, and the lists stay on your computer.
Can I see this without giving anyone my password?
Yes. The manual check uses the Instagram app or site you are already signed in to. The data download comes from Instagram's own export. Unfolks is free and uses the browser session already open on instagram.com. There is no password field in the extension and no Unfolks account to create. You should not type your Instagram password into a third-party website to answer this question.
Can I see who doesn't follow me back without installing an app?
Yes. A small Following list can be checked by hand, and Instagram's data download is a file you compare on your computer with no extra app account. Unfolks is not a phone app. It is a desktop side panel for Chrome, Edge, and Brave, and it does not run in browsers without that side panel. The phone is where the manual check lives. You can request the data download from the phone and open the file on a computer.
Will looking get my account restricted?
Reading your own lists is ordinary Instagram use. A fast automated scan can still be slowed or stopped, because it requests a lot of pages in a row. That is separate from an unfollow limit, and Instagram does not publish the threshold for either one. The data-file check avoids the scan: the comparison happens on your computer and sends Instagram no new requests. Unfollowing is the action most likely to be limited. No tool can guarantee that it will not happen.
Is this the same as seeing who unfollowed me?
No. Someone who never followed you is a non-follower. Someone who used to follow you and stopped is an unfollow. Who doesn't follow you back is a comparison of who you follow against who follows you, and you can produce it today even if you have never checked before. An unfollow needs an older copy of your followers. Instagram does not send a message when either thing happens. Reading the non-follower list as people who left counts people who may never have followed you.
What should I do with the list once I have it?
Nothing, if you only wanted to look. That is a valid result. If you want to unfollow, hide the accounts you mean to keep first. Hidden accounts stay out of a bulk unfollow until you bring them back. Then unfollow a portion, not the whole list at full speed. Unfolks waits 4–6 seconds between unfollows by default and rests for 3 minutes after every 5. You can make both waits longer in Settings. Instagram does not publish a safe daily number, so a precise cap you read elsewhere is a guess. If Instagram starts refusing, stop.
